📝 1. Register Your Business

Start by forming your company—LLC, Corporation, or Sole Proprietorship—and getting an EIN from the IRS.

Statement of Information (if required in your state)

🚛 2. Get USDOT and MC Numbers

If you’re crossing state lines, you need a USDOT number (for safety regulations) and an MC number (to operate commercially).

🔒 3. File a BOC-3 Form

This form designates a legal agent in each state. It’s required before your MC number becomes active.

🛢 4. Apply for IFTA

If your vehicle meets weight or axle requirements, you must register for IFTA and file quarterly fuel tax reports.

💻 5. UCR Registration

This annual fee is based on the size of your fleet and is mandatory for interstate carriers.

🚨 6. State-Specific Permits

Depending on where you operate, you may need:

CA Number

CA-MCP (Motor Carrier Permit)

NYHUT, NM, KYU permits, etc.
