New Trucking Company? Here’s What You Need to Stay Compliant

Starting a trucking company is exciting—but also full of paperwork, deadlines, and regulations. If you miss one step, your company could be shut down before you even hit the road.

At C&R Priority Services, we help new carriers get fully compliant from day one. Here’s what you need to launch your business the right way:

📝 1. Register Your Business

Start by forming your company—LLC, Corporation, or Sole Proprietorship—and getting an EIN from the IRS.
We can take care of:

Business formation
EIN application
Statement of Information (if required in your state)

🚛 2. Get USDOT and MC Numbers

If you’re crossing state lines, you need a USDOT number (for safety regulations) and an MC number (to operate commercially).

🔒 3. File a BOC-3 Form

This form designates a legal agent in each state. It’s required before your MC number becomes active.

🛢 4. Apply for IFTA

If your vehicle meets weight or axle requirements, you must register for IFTA and file quarterly fuel tax reports.

💻 5. UCR Registration

This annual fee is based on the size of your fleet and is mandatory for interstate carriers.

🚨 6. State-Specific Permits

Depending on where you operate, you may need:

CA Number
CA-MCP (Motor Carrier Permit)
NYHUT, NM, KYU permits, etc.

🧾 7. Stay Current with Renewals

Many of these filings need to be renewed yearly or quarterly. We track your deadlines and make sure you stay compliant.
